Fitness-Friday April Fools

Fitness Friday – the April Fools Day Edition

Everything is going absolutely perfectly, and I feel totally ready to run a 15k race next weekend.

April Fools!

In all seriousness, things are going ok running-wise. The knee problems that I talked about last week are still rearing their ugly head, so I’ve been taking it easier than I would really like to over the past week. It’s weird because it doesn’t generally hurt a whole lot while I’m running, and physical activity doesn’t really seem to make it worse, but it doesn’t seem to be getting better either. It also doesn’t hurt all the time, so it’s easy to flipflop between disregarding the injury and feeling concerned about it.  Anyways, I’m pretty sure it’s ITBS, so I’m going to be doing some exercises that will hopefully combat it and go from there.

Friday: Nada

12k runSaturday: 12k run. This was the best run I’ve had in a long time, and made me feel like I might actually be able to do the 15k. I went out planning to only do 5k or so, but I felt so good that I figured I’d do my full prescribed long run! I had planned out a much shorter route so I improvised and did a bunch of loops around my neighborhood until I got up to the full distance. I’m not sure whether it was all of the sugary brunch carbs I ate beforehand, or just something in the air that day, but this was the best I’ve felt running mentally and physically in a long time. I kept waiting to hit a wall, and while the last kilometre or so was definitely challenging, I wasn’t feeling like I was going to die like I had on other recent runs. I’m hoping that this is a good sign for the future!

Sunday: Rest

Monday: Soccer game with my women’s team. This was such a fun game because were playing the best team in our division but actually wound up beating them 6-3! We have a habit of rising to the occasion for good teams (good) but lowering our play to the level of worse teams (not so good). I scored two goals in the game – I don’t remember the last time I did that! Our coach always brings us champagne to drink in the locker room after the last game of the season, so it was nice to be able to celebrate a great win this time around! Now we’re done until outdoor, which will start in May. I definitely miss playing in the break between seasons!

Tuesday: Rest

Wednesday: 6k run plus a little core work. After Saturday’s great run I was hoping to feel just as awesome on Wednesday, but no dice. This one was a bit rough. It just goes to show that you never know how you’re going to feel when you lace up your shoes and head out the door.

Thursday: Half hour upper body and arm work out from Fitness Blender as well as some IT band exercises. I really need to get some dumbells or at least a medicine ball so that I can make my upper body workouts more difficult, but Fitness Blender does have some good bodyweight only ones.

I have my last coed soccer game of the season tomorrow night, and we’re going to have a team BBQ at our house after, so that should be fun, especially if the weather forecast holds true. Have a great weekend, everyone! Have you gotten fooled yet today?

    1. Nice job on the workouts last week! I used to play soccer growing up and joined when I moved to Calgary to meet friends. I haven’t played in a couple years and miss it.
