Thursday Thoughts

Thursday Thoughts #19

It’s been a while since I let the world in on what’s going on in my brain. Let’s do some thinking out loud on this Thursday, shall we?

I realized the other day that I don’t think I’ve gone for a run since my half marathon. Whoops? I haven’t been taking a purposeful break from running, I guess it just hasn’t been what I’ve felt like doing over the last couple of months. I’ve been running lots on the soccer field and doing other things so I’m not overly worried about it, and I’m sure I’ll go back to it some day soon. I always seem to.

Some of those other fitnessy things have been happening at the gym that Zevi and I joined a couple of months ago. When it comes to working out Zevi isn’t often interested in the same things as me, and can’t run because of his knee, so it’s been really nice to go to the gym together even if we’re not necessarily doing the same things. We’ve been able to motivate each other on a few occasions when one of us didn’t feel like getting off the couch and going, which has been great! I’d been doing random HIIT workouts from the Nike+ Training app, which I like, but I wanted a more regimented plan and a way to track my progress, so last night I started the Live Fit Trainer program! I decided on this one based on Jen’s positive reviews, so I think it will be good. I’m not following any of the dietary stuff because that’s not how I roll – I’m just in it for the workouts! I did a chest and triceps workout last night and couldn’t complete all of the push ups it prescribed, even from my knees . Suffice it to say that I have lots of room for improvement! I’m a little nervous about some of the more complicated exercises as I don’t have a ton of strength training experience (and by not a ton I mean pretty much none), but the website provides videos of each exercise that are quite helpful. I need to remember to take some before pictures so that I can track my progress!

Pretty much all summer I’ve been trying to find a pair of flat sandals that I like, and I keep coming up empty. I want them to be dressier than flip flops or birkenstocks, but casual enough that I can wear them with jeans on the weekend. I’ve looked on and offline at so many places and can’t seem to find that magical shoe unicorn that I’m looking for! It doesn’t help that I had a pair that I adored that I had to throw away, which now nothing will measure up to. Now all of the sandals are disappearing from stores, and I don’t know if I’ll ever find what I want! I might give it one more try this weekend to see what I can track down.

Remember The Cardigans? Major grade seven flashbacks when I think of them. I discovered this cover of their song Lovefool last night and I’m really liking it!

The Olympics start tomorrow and I’m so excited! They’ve actually sort of already started with Canada winning their first women’s soccer game (yay!), but officially they kick off this weekend. I know that it’s kind of a gong show down in Rio and there are a lot of issues, but I’ve always been a huge Olympics fan, and I don’t think that anything can take that love away. In the summer Olympics my favourite events to watch are gymnastics, diving, soccer, swimming, and the boat races (kayak, canoe etc). There are lots of others that I’m sure I’m forgetting. I also love all of the heartwarming stories that come out of the games and the way that they bring everyone in the country together. Maybe I’m a naive idealist, but the magic of the Olympics still gets me!

Thinking Out Loud Thursday

Are you excited for the Olympics? What’s your favourite Olympic sport to watch?

      1. Yes, I’m excited to see how it goes! I need to remember to take some before pics.

    1. I can’t wait for the Olympics! I love it so much! I’m already excitedly reading Kyle Shewfelt’s tweets & can’t wait to follow along.

The Live Fit program looks a lot like what we used to do for weight training when I swam. I haven’t done that kind of thing in so long. I’m always tempted to follow along with some type of program like that, but then I get really bored. You’ll have to let me know how it goes! Also, you should come down for Tanis’ workout sometime this summer. They’re mostly bodyweight stuff like what we did for Fitness Friday & then there’s playtime, which is much more my style! I’m a child.

      1. I’ll definitely keep you posted! I’d be down for giving that a try one of these days :).

      1. There are just so many great stories! It’s hard not to feel all the feels.
