Heather prince's island glasses

Some Thoughts on a Thursday #14

Hi friends! Happy Thursday. I’m linking up with Amanda, as I usually do, on this lovely spring day. Let’s get to it!

Prince's IslandIt’s biking season again, and I’m so happy about it. I love getting everywhere I can on my bike in the spring, summer, and fall, and I really wouldn’t be upset if I could avoid driving altogether. It’s funny, though – as a cyclist in Calgary I feel like I’m pretty unpopular. Pedestrians hate me, drivers hate me, and people in general seem to have this weird bitterness towards cyclists that I don’t really understand. I was biking down a shared bike/pedestrian pathway yesterday and someone almost stepped in front of me as I was coasting down a hill to inform me that I was supposed to be walking my bike down the path. It was just a misunderstanding, but there was definitely some animosity in his tone, even though I was giving him plenty of space. Aaanyways, it wasn’t a big deal, and there have been lots of strides in the past couple of years to make Calgary a more bike friendly city, so let’s hope that the attitude towards cyclists continues to trend in a more positive direction.

img_20160406_145259.jpgAvenue Magazine just published this Calgary noodle guide and I love it! I am a major noodle lover, so this is right up my alley. I don’t agree with all of their picks, but there are some that I haven’t tried that I definitely want to check out. My mom was commenting today when we went for ramen that I was obsessed with Sapporo Ichiban as a child, so I guess my noodle obsession started early. I remember taking already cooked instant ramen to school and warming it up in the microwave, which is kind of gross, now that I think about it. Speaking of gross ramen-related school things, did you ever eat dried ramen noodles with the seasoning salt poured over them? I remember that being such a huge thing at our elementary school. That and eating jello powder. Kids are so weird sometimes.

I went to physio yesterday for an IT band issue that I’m having, and I had cupping done on me for the first time. I’ve had needling and deep tissue massage and many other physio treatments, but nothing that I’ve had comes close to matching the pain from cupping. Ho-leee! I was gripping the side of the table trying not to squeal in pain like a total wuss, but it was a struggle. I have a couple more physio appointments in my future, and I’m hoping there won’t be too much more of that involved.

Heather bike prince's islandI’ve crossed the threshold to where I feel weird without my glasses on as opposed to feeling strange when I’m wearing them. I didn’t think I’d wear them as much as I have been, but they feel pretty natural now, so apparently I really did need them! I still forget them when I go places from time to time, but they’re generally a pretty big part of my daily routine now. I guess I’m a four eyes for life, now!

Well, I’m off to do all sorts of fun things like figure out who’s going to build a new fence for our backyard to replace the one that’s about to rot itself to the ground #homeownerproblems. Hope the end of your week is lovely!Thinking Out Loud Thursday

    1. Cupping is one thing I haven’t tried before. I was thinking of having it done for my calf strain but my physio didn’t think it would be helpful. I had no idea it could be painful.
I have to admit I’m in the camp of hating cyclists. Mostly because there are so many that don’t follow the rules. You can’t follow the rules of a pedestrian and car, pick one!

      1. I don’t think it’s always super painful, but my IT band was so tight that it was pretty bad. There are some bad cyclists out there for sure that annoy me too!

    1. I have to agree with Jen – I find bikers super annoying because they want to be treated as both a pedestrian and a motor vehicle. I’m sorry, but you can’t have it both ways!

Ive had cupping done on my abdomen when I was younger for my colitis, but I don’t remember it being painful. Just really, really weird!

And I LOVED dry ichiban as a kid! I would even eat it plain and uncooked with no seasoning lol. And I still like it (cooked) from time to time as an adult. Throw in some broccoli and sriracha sauce and it’s pretty darn tasty (and dirt cheap!) haha!

      1. Instant ramen is still a major guilty pleasure of mine. It’s so good!

    1. Always love meeting fellow Canadian bloggers!
I bike all year round (in Toronto) and I can definitely attest to the not-so-positive opinions bikers tend to get. It goes both ways I think – bikers dislike drivers and drivers dislike bikers. As long as we wear our helmets!
I’m not too sure what cupping is but it sounds a bit horrid. :s
I too am now wearing my glasses more. I used to only wear them when super super lazy or tired but now I’ve basically accepted them as a daily occurrence. Maybe it just means I’ve become perma lazy and tired? Regardless…

      1. Yes, I always love meeting fellow Canadian bloggers too. Thanks for stopping by! Hah yeah, it goes both ways a lot of the time for sure. A helmet is definitely key!
