Currently: May

I always love reading these posts on other people’s blogs, so I thought I’d do one myself this month. Here’s what’s up with me these days!

Watching: I haven’t been watching much TV lately, but when Zevi’s home we’ve been powering through The Office. I watched the first few seasons when it first aired, but now that we’re on season 6 everything is new! Michael Scott is absolutely one of the funniest characters on TV of all time. There’s no way you can not laugh watching his antics! I was watching Big Brother Canada pretty faithfully, but I’ve gotten pretty far behind on that now so I need to catch up!

Reading: I recently finished Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. Like her previous novels, the main character is deeply flawed and sometimes difficult to love, but that’s one of the things that makes her books interesting. I got pretty engrossed in this one, and when I was about half way through I stayed up for two hours reading in bed because I had to finish it! Thanks for the recommendation, Becky! I just started Big Magic, and I’m really enjoying it so far. Unfortunately I’m not going to be able to finish it before it needs to go back to the library, but I may end up buying it so that I can read the rest. I just bought a copy of Remembering Mia for Brie’s book club, so I’ll be starting that soon!

Thinking About: Time management. Specifically, how to make the most of my days now that I’m spending a lot of those days working. I feel like a moron even talking about it because it’s a thing that everyone does, and it really shouldn’t be that hard, but going from having my days empty to plan however I please to having a lot more structure is a big change. A very good change, but a big one nonetheless, and one that I need to figure out how to make the most of. One thing that I know is that I need to prioritize sleep, because I’m not getting enough of it and I know that that will come back to haunt me if this trend continues. I really wish that I was one of those people that could live on just a few hours of sleep, but unfortunately I need at least eight hours to really be at my best. I know I’ll get the right routine figured out, but for now I’m still trying to put together the puzzle of when I’m going to accomplish all of the things that I want to do.

CelebratingBirthdays galore! I know so many people who were born in the first two weeks of May, including four members of my and Zevi’s immediate families. We celebrated my sister and brother’s birthdays this past week, and then my mom’s and Zevi’s dad’s birthdays are this weekend. There are lots of family get togethers going on, which is always nice! I feel pretty lucky to have such a wonderful family, and that so many of them are close enough to celebrate with!

Listening to: I posted some of my happy favourites on Tuesday, and I’ve been listening to that playlist a fair bit to combat the grey skies we’ve been having. I listened to the Beyonce album for the first time this past weekend via my sister, and I totally get the hype! It’s so different from anything she’s ever done, and I’m so impressed by the range she’s developed to accompany her always incredible voice. My sister wants to go see her in Edmonton next weekend and it’s definitely tempting!
Looking forward to: A little getaway this weekend that I’ll talk about more next week. I have to be vague for now, but if you follow me on Instagram I’m sure you’ll find out what I’m up to soon enough . I’m also really looking forward to the long weekend when I have virtually no plans. I’ve been pretty busy every weekend for the last little while, and a weekend of just doing things around the house and relaxing sounds pretty amazing to me right now.

What are you looking forward to right now? Watching? Listening to?

    1. Ahhh The Office is SUCH a good show! I miss it and it was so sad when it was officially done. Have you watched the British (original) version? I agree- Michael Scott is such a great character. As is Dwight. Heck, they’re all awesome. Even the ones who barely get any air time, like Creed.

I don’t think it matters what we do, we all struggle with time management. Sometimes I don’t like to talk about it either since I AM home all day, but just because I’m at home doesn’t mean my time is all mine. So don’t feel silly for talking about it! I wish I was one of those people that could function well on a few hours of sleep a night too!

      1. I know, there are so many good characters. The Dwight/Jim relationship is amazing.

Yeah, I think it’s tricky no matter how much time we have! Always a work in progress.

    1. I’ll try to remember to bring you my copy of Big Magic at dinner on the 21st 🙂
It’s been sitting in my living room since I bought it. Whoops!

    1. Time management is always a struggle for me, especially because I’ll try to multitask thinking that I can get more done, and it actually ends up having the opposite effect… like making me feel like I have ADD and can’t focus on one thing. Bah. And the best books are always the ones that have you staying up late to finish. I need one of those in my life again!!

      1. Oh I’m the worst for trying to multitask and having it backfire! Multitasking never works the way we want it to, I don’t think. I say that as I’m responding to comments in front of the tv haha 😉

      1. I’m definitely not looking forward to getting to that point!

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed the book. I think you’ll like Remember Mia. I’m close to being done and it’s been really good so far.

I’m looking forward to a fun weekend in the city! I’ve been rewatching Gilmore Girls, which is probably my favourite show. But I also catch up on Scandal every couple weeks and just learned The Good Wife has been on again so I need to catch up with that. Listening to? Well, I’m in need of something new. Especially to put together a new race playlist for the coming weeks.

      1. I started Remembering Mia this weekend and I’m really liking it so far! I think it will make for some interesting discussion.
